SUBJECT: RE: 2.4/2.5 kernel?

There isn't much progress towards a 2.4 kernel, mainly because the 2.2.21 kernel is so stable and fits the needs of 95% of the developer community. That is not to say that we shouldn't upgrade to the 2.4 kernel, but people aren't as driven to do that.

The xRhino kernel porters are not being reimbursed for their time on the project, its strictly voluntary... we are incredibly busy with other things at the moment, so unless somebody else jumps forward and does the port, its not going to happen in the near future.

Its true that joining the linux-mips guys would be beneficial, but we've found quite a bit of resistance due to the PS2 being the strange beast that it is... since it is one incarnation of a MIPS processor that will go out of style in another 2 years, nobody really wants to put a gargantuan amount of effort into porting an already obsoleted piece of hardware. That being said, we're still moving towards a 2.4 kernel... its just that all our professional and personal time is allocated at the moment.
