SUBJECT: Linux for PlayStation 2 Studio At AbertayYou might be wondering what we intend doing with these kits at Abertay. Well, the computer games technology course (which was the first of its kind in the UK) is a computer programming course with a strong emphasis on graphics programming, console programming, games programming and mathematics. This is the second time that Sony have provided us with equipment - they gave us some Net Yaroze PS1 Development kits about 5 years ago. The new PS2 kits are ideal for teaching low level graphics hardware, graphics and games programming, network porgramming plus many of the other main aspects of games development and technology. The lab which we have set up has 20 networked PS2s and 20 networked PCs with LCD dual input monitors and TVs. Development work can be done on the PS2 in stand-alone format, or using cross development tools on the PC. This is truely a superb facility for our students and budding games programmers and I too thank Sony for their generousity in supporting the development of this studio.
