We believe that the Playstation 2 Linux system is a breakthrough in hobbyist game programming and a cutting edge educational and research tool for specialized graphics systems and micro-programmable architectures. The Linux kernel is at the heart of this system and we expect that it will eventually catch up to the mainstream kernel sources. The following is our work towards helping the community make this a reality.
More advanced features that we plan on integrating in future kernel releases are: kernel thread pre-emption along with low-latency patches, rmap support, integration of the new O(1) scheduler and some real-time extensions to the kernel. The eventual goal being a system that is as responsive as the Sony PS2 RTOS with all the benefits of the Linux kernel and user-space Open Source software.
